God Wrote the Constitution?!

I was floored by Tom DeLay's response, that the "Constitution was written by God, based on biblical principals" on Matthew Hagee's show, The Difference. (I realize it's a very religious show, & that Hagee is considered a pastor)

But, I can't help wondering if any local news outlets have the chutzpah to ask folks on the street (or by poll on their site) the burning question, "Who wrote the US Constitution?" I'd love to see the answers.

It's Saturday morning now, so go for it! You made it past Friday night.

To be honest, I couldn't help thinking of the "reporter on the street" scenario when I read that -- there was a video about a year ago (or so) down in Chattanooga asking some basic historical question that people gave a ridiculously (wrong) answer.

When I read Pam's post

My gut humorist blurted out

"Oh, no, God wrote that part."

But it was a joke, and when one studies humor, one finds out that, often, what makes something funny is that it isn't funny to the person at the wrong end of the joke, in this case Pam and women in general. So I bit my tongue. This would have spilled a drink and started a roll of one liners, that no doubt many would have been at my expense, had it been in a social setting. It wasn't true, but sometimes exposing prejudice can be at the core of humor. Now that I've explained it and drained out the humor, I still think it was a funny line.

I remember a Jay Leno clip, where he asked general people on the street, "Who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?" Only a few could give the correct answer. When he asked those same people, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" they were all able to answer,"Sponge Bob Square Pants!"

Well, no more than the slave part. Times change. There's clear archeological evidence that there were female priests in the early church. But they didn't write the history.

Jesus included everyone in his ministry. That is very clear. I'm under the impression that some people don't read the Bible the same way I do.

and I really mean, SAD THING! The sad thing is, when I read Pam's line, I knew she was joking, but many of the Tom DeLay followers, and their ilk, would think she was being deadly serious, what with the whole submissive wife ideal and such fundamentalists follow halfheartedly. (for clarification, halfheartedly refers to following only half of the verse related to submissive wives)

But, here, in our little corner of the interwebs, we understood Pam's remark.
