I follow several epidemiologists and have heard them all say that this masking is a good development. What am I missing about this mask issue?

The masks have become part of the protest 'uniform,' partly for health reasons when there are large crowds, partly in response to surveillance, and partly because gas has been used by counter-protesters. During the anti-Iraq war protests at West Town, police and army helicopters routinely flew over the crowd, photographing the protesters as a tool of intimidation. Big brother is watching y'all, right?
I also remember that, during the Vietnam war, protesters were handed masks as a precaution against police using gas.
BTW, local progressive citizens are welcome to join these peaceful and friendly protests. Tonight, young Jewish anti-war protesters held a sabbath service, wearing "Not in Our Name" shirts.

Some of that is what I thought, other I didn't realize. I'm not sure it is believable that they wear masks for health reasons when masks are not worn anywhere else, but, heh, who knows.
Michael, please be careful out there. Don't want to see you on TV getting dragged away like we have seen happen to a few other responsible protesters.

One of the problems with focusing on single issues is that issues can overlap. These days it's hard to keep up with everything. Good luck and may peace come to the Middle East.
